Dubey & Schaldenbrand watch - Like many watch companies...

Like many watch companies with history, Dubey & Schaldenbrand found its origin in a specific (and technical) need, namely the creation of a chronograph rattrapante or split second - a function which was common and vital in sporting events and all military use.
The post WWII industrial reconstruction created a new boom for the chronograph rattrapante as it was highly appreciated for the timing of industrial processes. The main problem at the time was that the price of this function was high and, limited to a few watch manufacturers only. As the Second World War was coming to an end, Georges Dubey - master watchmaker - decided to look for a way to create an inexpensive and reliable split second chronograph.
With this in mind, Mr. Dubey - then a Professor at the Watchmaking School of La Chaux-de-Fonds - came up with what was "a simple solution to a complicated problem". And thus was born the famous "IndexMobile" with its recoil spring located between the dial and the crystal. This invention earned Mr. Dubey patents worldwide as well as international acclaim.
Joining forces with Mr. René Schaldenbrand, an equally gifted and experienced watchmaker of La Chaux-de-Fonds, they established the Dubey & Schaldenbrand Watch Company in 1946. Through a meticulous choice of components and traditional assembly by experienced watchmakers, Dubey & Schaldenbrand were able to offer a high standard selection of mechanical watches.
